Ibis Ensemble
The Ibis Ensemble was created to serve the communities of Trinidad and Tobago with diverse chamber music offerings of the highest quality. The five musicians, all faculty members at the Academy for Performing Arts at the University of Trinidad and Tobago, are committed to creating a body of literature that will include arrangements of traditional and local music, as well as new commissions, most notably "Fragments: 1" by Trinidadian composer Dominique Le Gendre. This commission, which takes inspiration from Derek Walcott's 1992 Nobel Speech, was premiered at a concert in collaboration with the US Embassy in March 2011.
Ibis Ensemble consists of five members; Aidan Chamberlain on trombone, Caitlyn Kamminga on double bass, Brian Kushmaul and Deborah Moore on percussion and Duncan Prescott* on clarinet. Collectively, their experiences extend from the United Kingdom, across Europe and Asia, through North America and down into the West Indies; performing with prestigious organizations such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Opera House, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC.
*In July 2011 Duncan Prescott passed away. His death was completely unexpected and the loss is staggering. Paul Harris, internationally renowned clarinetist, having heard of Duncan’s death, wrote, “I always considered him to be one of the very best clarinet players of his generation.” In June 2011 Ibis Ensemble finished recording Adam Walters new work, ‘Little Red Riding Hood.’ The recording will be released in the spring of 2012, with illustrations by Che Lovelace and will be dedicated to the memory of Duncan Prescott.
